Responsibilities Nature: Under
immediate supervision performs routine clerical duties and related work
as required.
Position Level
Duties ‑ Examples:
1. Shelves library materials and reads shelves.
2. Repairs or reconditions library materials.
3. Does routine bibliographic checking.
4. Does routine typing and filing.
5. Assists with programs and displays.
6. Sorts and routes mail, books, periodicals.
Specific
Duties:
- Retrieves
library materials and returns them to their proper places. (A priority,
daily, 20%)
- Stamps and puts
out newspapers and magazines. (A
priority, daily, 10%)
- Assists with staffing
of desks for breaks only. (B
priority, daily, 5%)
- Shelfreads. (B
priority, weekly, 2%)
- Helps with clerical
and other duties as required. (C
priority, as needed, 3%)
- Assists in refiling
magazines and newspapers. (B
priority, as needed, 2%)
- Checks in and files
reference loose‑leaf
services. (A
priority, daily, 8%)
- Files Municipal
Code, and West's Pocket Parts. (B
priority, as needed, 2%)
- Compiles reference
desk statistics. (A
priority, daily, 10%)
- Is responsible for
seeing to it that reference stacks, and index shelves are in order. (C
priority, weekly, 3%)
- Checks
reference book indexes on OPAC. (C
priority, as needed, 2%)
- Processes telephone
books. (A
priority, daily, 7%)
- Assists reference
acquisitions librarian. (B
priority, as needed, 21%)
- Assists in ordering,
processing and maintaining the circulating pamphlet file materials. (B
priority, weekly, 5%)
Qualifications:
Position
Level Knowledge and Ability:
1. Ability to understand and perform routine
library procedures.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with staff
and public.
3. Must present an acceptable appearance.
4. Ability to create and maintain effective
public relations.
5. Dependable work and attendance habits.
Specialized
Knowledge and Ability
1. Familiarization with Dewey Decimal classification
system and computer catalog.
2. Ability to write legibly.
3. Ability to use various filing systems.
4. Basic knowledge of arithmetic and alphabetizing.
5. Ability to do accurate work quickly.
6. Basic knowledge of computers and PAC.
Physical
Demands of the Position:
1. Sitting, standing, walking, climbing and
stooping.
2. Bending/twisting and reaching.
3. Talking and hearing; use of the telephone.
4. Far vision at 20 feet or further, near vision
at 20 inches or less.
5. Lifting and carrying: 50 pounds or less.
6. Handling: processing, picking up and shelving
books.
7. Fingering: typing, writing, filing, sorting,
shelving and processing.
8. Pushing and pulling: objects weighing 60-80
pounds on wheels.
Training and Experience:
Minimum of 16 years of age (eligible for work permit).
