Do We Make House Calls?  You Bet We Do!

Our Home Delivery service brings the library to you . . .

Are you confined to your home or unable to visit the library in person?

Any person who’s temporarily or permanently unable to come to the library because of illness, disability, or other factors, and lives within the city of La Crosse, is eligible for this free service. (If volunteers are available, this service will be extended to non-city residents.)

How does this service work?

Volunteers will select library materials based on your reading interests and deliver them to your home at a prearranged time.  When you are finished with the materials, the volunteer will pick them up and bring them back to the library. This service is available all year round but may also be seasonal (ex. winter only).

What may be borrowed?

Library materials, including:

  • Books-paperback/hardcover fiction and nonfiction, including large print materials
  • Magazines
  • Pamphlets
  • Audio-visual items, including videos, audio books and music cassettes, compact discs (CDs)

If you think this service may benefit you or someone you know, just call Mary Dunn at the La Crosse Public Library, 789-7145.

Whatever your age or interests, the library can provide something for you.  Take advantage of this new service through the La Crosse Public Library.

As a library Home Delivery volunteer, you will:

Be part of the La Crosse Public Library’s volunteer team and have the opportunity to share your people skills as well as your knowledge of reading.

Be responsible for a minimum of four hours per month per client, and be willing to spend time with that person.

Receive staff support regarding book selection, computer use, materials location, library familiarity, etc.

Attend a training session(s).

Provide your own transportation.

Be physically capable of carrying book bags for delivery of materials.

We’re anxious to begin this new library service, but we need your help . . . Won’t you consider sharing your time and love of reading with someone not able to come to the library?

Call Mary Dunn at 789-7145 for more information or to sign up as a volunteer.
