Your Accessible Library: Visual Disabilities

For people with visual disabilities:

  • Arkenstone reading machine (with large print, and Braille manuals) at Main
  • Large print books
  • Audio books and books on CD
  • Braille books (children only)
  • Applications for services from the Wisconsin Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
  • Public photocopier with enlargement feature
  • Magnifiers and high intensity lighting
  • CCTV and Magni Cam units at Main
  • Telesensory Alladin reading machine at Main
  • Compu-Lenz magnifier

For all individuals with disabilities:

  • Guidance in the use of the library and its resources
  • Training in use of assistive equipment
  • Subject access on computer catalogs to large-print books
  • Home loan of equipment, such as cassette tape recorders and closed caption decoder
  • Visits and tours by groups of people with disabilities are welcome
  • Reference information service by telephone or email us at refdesk@lacrosse.lib.wi.us
  • All sites located on or near public transportation routes

Access for Everyone

La Crosse Public Library recognizes the rights of all individuals to library service.  As a resource to the community, the library is committed to achieving not only the legal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance requirements but also the spirit of ADA.

La Crosse Public Library consists of three service locations:

Main Library
8th and Main Sts.

North Community Library
Kane and Gillette Sts.

South Community Library
16th and Farnam Sts,
789-7103

It is the intention of the library to serve all people at each of the three locations by offering materials in various formats, electronic aids, and services designed for ease of use.

If individuals with disabilities require additional assistance to use the library’s services, or require that a program be presented in an accessible format, please call 789-7118 at least one week in advance so that arrangements can be made.
