Ordering Materials from the Family History Library "FamilySearch"

The Family History Library has been collecting genealogical records from all over the world since the 1930s and has additional donated material like compiled family histories and information. Records include millions of items that would only be available at the location where the records were created were it not for the Family History Library’s collection.  This collection of materials is called FamilySearch.

Check the FamilySearch catalog at http://www.familysearch.org to see if there is information that would help in your genealogy research. The majority of the Family History Library’s collection of microfilm and microfiche is available for loan. Some of the books in the Family History Library, though not most, are also available in microfilm or microfiche format for loan. Please come down to Archives for help in searching the catalog.

How do you order film/fiche to borrow?  It's easy!  Simply create an account at www.familysearch.org if you have not already done so. The account is free. Look at the film order site at www.familysearch.org/films. There are user guides and help that you can access and either print out and read on your computer. You are able to order films using a Visa or Master Card credit card, debit card, prepaid card, or a PayPal account and have them sent to the La Crosse Public Library Archives.  When you first log onto the film order site, you will be prompted to set a default location for your microfilm or microfiche orders to be sent to: choose La Crosse Public Library to have your orders sent to Archives. All microfilm or microfiche ordered must be used at the Archives, and Archives staff cannot do research for you OR order the films on your behalf.  Please call or contact the Archives for more information.
