Introduction

In addition to over four hundred subscriptions to magazines and newspapers in print, La Crosse Public Library has access to many more magazines and newspapers online, ranging from free websites to searchable databases provided either by the state of Wisconsin or paid for by the library. Use the links below to find things that Google can't!
Highlights
BadgerLink is a collection of online resources made available to all Wisconsin residents by the state Department of Public Instruction. Find articles from over 11,000 magazines and journals and over 700 newspapers, as well as poetry and literature for both children and adults, images and many other specialized resources.

La Crosse Tribune Index
The La Crosse Tribune Index covers local and regional news stories from the La Crosse Tribune. Indexing for city of La Crosse articles started in September 1990. Indexing for articles relating to Buffalo, Crawford, Jackson, Juneau, Monroe, Trempealeau, and Vernon counties started on January 1, 2004. Some older articles, as well as articles from other sources, have also been added. These news stories include, but are not limited to, businesses, organizations, elections, schools, crime, government, and events. Human interest stories, sports scores, advertisements and editorials are generally not included. We also have clipping files on local topics since 1976, available in the Archives at the main library.

New York Times Historical
Funded by and available to city of La Crosse residents.
Includes all the articles from the New York Times beginning in 1851 and continuing through 2001, in image files that reproduce the article exactly as it appeared in the original newspaper. Requires Adobe Acrobat for viewing.

Funded by and available to city of La Crosse residents.
An index to articles in older magazines. No links to the articles, so ask at a service desk for help in finding the article you want.

Funded by and available to Wisconsin residents.
Includes a subset of the resources in the larger Magazines & Newspapers database above, but with a unique search screen that allows you to search specifically for magazine or newspaper articles, biographies, photos, videos, etc.
Wisconsin Newspapers Digital Research

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association has made articles from its 235 daily and weekly newspapers available in this online resource. Coverage from April 2005 through two months ago.
