The Consumer and Patient Health Health Section of the Medical Library Association

The American Medical Association has complied a list of resources for healthcare consumers from governmental, educational, organizational, and commercial web sites. It covers a wide variety of health and medical topics.

DIRLINE

"DIRLINE is a directory database that provides patients, health care and social services professionals, and consumers with an easy-to-use online resource for locating health and biomedical organizations offering information, referral, and support for various diseases and conditions."

Family Doctor

Family Doctor has been written and reviewed by physicians and patient education professionals at the American Academy of Family Physicians.  It includes informational sheets on specific health problems, a question and answer section on common health issues, drug information, herbal and alternative remedies, and self-care flowcharts.

HealthLinks Plus

The goal of the HealthLink Plus web site is to facilitate access to consumer health information in an effort to develop and enhance public knowledge of important health and fitness issues.

Healthy Roads Media

Healthy Roads Media offers downloadable slide shows in several formats on topics such as diabetes, domestic violence, smoking, etc.

InteliHealth

InteliHealth's expert editors "consumerize" health information to make it accessible to the widest possible audience.  To promote quality, health information developed by InteliHealth is reviewed and approved by leading medical experts.  It includes information on drugs, diseases, life stages and also has a medical dictionary.

La Crosse County Health Department Newsletters

The La Crosse County Health Department offers monthly newsletters to help you focus on a healthier lifestyle by eating right and exercising.

Mayoclinic

The Mayo Clinic web site will lead you to a wide variety of health information.  It has "condition centers" and "healthy living centers," drug information and a first aid and self care guide.   There is also a section called "Expert Answers from Mayo Specialists."

Medicaid Resource Book

The Medicaid Resource Book "describes four pivotal aspects of how the Medicaid program operates -- who it covers, what it covers, how it is financed, and how it is administered. It was written to assist the public and policymakers in understanding the structure and operation of the Medicaid program."

MEDLINEplus

MEDLINEplus provides access to extensive information about specific diseases and conditions and also has links to consumer health information form the National Institutes of Health.  You will find dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, health information in Spanish and other languages, and clinical trials.

NOAH

"The New York Academy of Medicine provides consumer health information on a wide variety of topics in English and Spanish."

State Health Facts

State Health Facts is brought to the web by Kaiser Family Foundation. This resource contains the latest state-level data on demographics, health, and health policy, including health coverage, access, financing, and state legislation.
