19th Century California Sheet Music Collection

This collection contains over 2000 pieces of sheet music that was published in California between 1852 and 1900.

Folk Music of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and America

This site is a collection of traditional and popular songs of England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and America dating from 1600 to 1927.  It includes the categories:  "Songs of Love," "Lullabies, Sad Songs, Songs of Home and of Melancholy and Nostalgia," "Songs of the Countryside, County Life and Common Folk," "Songs of War," "Songs of the Sea," "Songs of America," "Songs of Wastrels, Rascals, Outlaws, Criminals, and Violence," and "Children's and Nonsense Songs."

Free Scores

Free Scores offers access to sheet music for accordion, piano, orchestra/band, saxophone, violin/viola/cello, choral, guitar and more to come in the future.  You may need to add various plugins for viewing the sheet music.  It includes links to sites in English and in French.

Historic American Sheet Music

"The Historic American Sheet Music Project provides access to digital images of 2042 pieces from the Rare Book, Manuscript and Special Collections at Duke University, published in the United States between 1850 and 1920."

Lester Levy Collection

"The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music is part of Special Collections at the Milton S. Eisenhower Library of The Johns Hopkins University. It contains over 29,000 pieces of music and focuses on popular American music spanning the period 1780 to 1960. All pieces of the collection are indexed on this site and a search will retrieve a catalog description of the pieces. An image of the cover and each page of music will also be retrieved if the music was published before 1923 and is in the public domain"

Music for the Nation:  American Sheet Music, 1870-1885

Music for the Nation contains over "47,000 pieces of sheet music registered for copyright during the years 1870 to 1885."  It includes popular songs, piano music, sacred and secular choral music, solo instrumental music, method books and instructional materials, and music for band and orchestra.

You can experience the diversity of America's performing arts through the Library of Congress' collections of sheet music, scores, audio recordsings, films, photographs, maps and more.

Music Scores

Music Scores offers free access to classical sheet music.   You can enjoy classical music in several different ways:  MIDI format, scorch, or PDF format.  MIDI format lets you listen to famous works and arrangements on the computer.  The PDF format allows you to download your favorite sheet music.   Scorch is "the latest in computer technology." You can hear the playback, but you will also see the sheet music with a cursor showing exactly where the music being played is. Each page turns in time with the music.  It can be searched by composer, by instrument or by style.

Music Viva

Music Viva offers users free sheet music that is currently made available on the web.  You can find music for vocals, woodwinds, brass, stringed instruments, strings, keyboard instruments and ensembles.

Sheet Music Consortium

This site harvest (collects) sheet music from participating collections. The collection included bibliographic information, as well as digitized copies of the original sheet music.
