Your library card account
Your library card has an account number that looks like this: A000xxxxxR or 2422600xxxxxxx
You also have a PIN (Personal Identification Number) or password. Your PIN is always 4 numbers, and it is usually the last four digits of your phone number. You need this information for several reasons:
- You can log in to the catalog to place and check holds, to renew items, to see what you have checked out, and to see if you have any fines.
- You need to know your card number and PIN in order to log on to public computers and to check out a laptop.
- You will need your card number and PIN to access online resources, such as Overdrive and research sources that are only available to City of La Crosse residents, like ConsumerReports.org and AtoZdatabases.
- You can now use your card number and PIN to log into the website. By logging in to the website, you can rate and review books, movies, music and audiobooks, and comment on staff blogs. Look for the Sign In link at the very top of each page on the website.
Responsibilities of Cardholders
Please regard your library card like you would any other card that has personal information, like a credit card. When you register for a library card, you agree that you will be responsible for any items checked out and that you will pay fines for late or lost items, even if another person checked out those items.
Please Note: in order to protect your privacy, any personal information that must be changed (telephone number, e-mail address, etc.) can only be changed by library staff. Just call us any time during regular operating hours and have your library card handy. We can make any necessary changes over the phone.
If your card is lost or missing
If you cannot find your card, or if it is stolen or being used without your permission, call the library immediately and ask for a block to be placed on your account. You can replace your card, in person, at no charge. If your address has changed, make sure you bring verification of your new address.
