Lars and the real girl - DVD

In a nutshell, Lars and the real girl is about a man who falls in love with a sex doll. YUCK you say! That was my thought exactly until I watched it. It is completely different than what I thought it would be be and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Lars (played by Ryan Gosling) is an extremely shy, mid 20's man who has trouble communicating with everyone, including his brother and sister-in-law (Gus and Karin). He tries to avoid people until he tells Gus and Karin that he has a visitor whom he met over the Internet. Suddenly he has a big smile on his face when Bianca is around. Everyone is in a state of shock and doesn't know what to do. Karin and Gus suggest that Bianca see the family doctor after her long trip. The doctor (played by Patricia Clarkson) tells Gus and Karin that Lars is having a delusion and that it can be a way of communicating. She suggests that they go along with it since "Bianca is in town for a reason". People from the church are consulted and they agree to go along with it. The small town that they live in follows the advice.
The rest of the movie follows how the town reacts to Bianca, and how Lars' relationships with everyone change. It is the kind of film with subtle humor that you think about it after it is over and laugh. I found the film completely delightful and one the whole family could see.
