KENNETH R. JENKERSON (1945-2002). SLIDE COLLECTION, (ca. 1930 - 2001). 1.2 cubic ft. (three archives boxes) Abstract Kenneth R. Jenkerson (1945-2002) was a lifelong La Crosse, Wis., resident and local historian who had a passion for photography, printing, and local history. He was a frequent visitor to estate sales and auctions in the area. This collection of slides was among the items sold at auction after his death. The slides were taken by unknown people over a long period of time and were likely purchased by Jenkerson locally. Most images are of the La Crosse area but are generally not identified and some are not dated. The collection is arranged by alphabetically by subject. Larger categories include bridges, circus events, parades, farm and country scenes, and the river. Acc. Nos. 2004-103; 2005-47 Biography Kenneth R. Jenkerson (1945-2002) grew up in a house on the 600 block of South Third Street in La Crosse. Growing up in one of the oldest parts of the city he developed a passion for the past at an early age. Photographs and memorabilia of La Crosse, which he collected at auctions, yard sales or antique and estate sales, were of most interest to him. He was a believer in sharing collections and information. As a result, Jenkerson had a great impact on archival collections in the city allowing many more people to discover what he had about the past. Scope and Content The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject and include categories such as automobiles, aviation, bluffs and coulees, bridges, buildings and streets, events (subdivided into Christmas, circus, Halloween, ice fishing, parades, picnics, ski jumping and weddings), farm and country scenes, highways, politics/elections, railroads, river scenes and boats, snow, and television WKBT channel 8.
