The Government Document Librarian at La Crosse Public Library has complied a topic listing of local, state, and federal related government web sites. These sites are created and maintained by organizations and individuals throughout the world. LPL cannot be responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of these sites. The inclusion of a link does not mean that LPL endorses or sponsors the products or services, if any, described or offered by these web sites. Use the drop-down menu to access the listing: Demographics & Statistics Use Facts About My Community to pull up a profile of selected statistics on your city or congressional district. Get population and housing data from the 1990 Census and the American Community Survey. Look at boundary maps or create a map to illustrate statistical data. View reports on industries for the country as a whole or a specified geographic area. Links to the current year's budget and previous
years back to 1996. Find the Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, Employment Cost Index, Real Earnings and unemployment statistics by browsing the BLS site or using the keyword search feature. The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics maintains this site, which contains such publications as America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, and links to other sites with statistics on children and families. A handy place to find the latest daily releases on key economic indicators from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census Bureau. Economic Statistics Briefing Room The Economic Statistics Briefing Room gathers together selected statistics on income, interest rates, prices and other important indicators that are produced by a variety of federal agencies. A nice quick reference, but not as comprehensive as FedStats. "Using maps, charts, reports, and relevant links, Ersys covers over 1300 US cities with detailed information on demographics, environmental factors, economic indicators, housing stats, media (newspaper, television, and radio), schools, transportation, local contacts, and much more!" Eurostat offers updated direct access to statistical information available on the European Union, the EU Member States, the euro-zone and other countries. This sites allows you to view global distribution
of U.S. or a state's exports; state-by-state exports to a selected
market; or export product profile to a selected market. Search by keyword, agency, program or browse
the table of contents.
Gives dollar figures for the "poverty
line". The Data Browser offers historical statistics of population for states and counties and even lets you graph the results. The Migration Policy Institute has launched a reference site that offers current news about migration, and a focus on migration fundamentals and fast facts. The "Global Center" features charts and tables showing patterns and trends. The "Data Center" also offers country profiles for a few countries. The "Profiles" section includes migration overviews and history. National Center for Education Statistics You will find the latest education statistics on this site from homeschooling to dropouts. National Center for Health Statistics National Master lets you graphically compare nations. You can generate graphs with ease on all kinds of statistics. "Population Reference Bureau has been informing people about the population dimensions of important social, economic, and political issues. Our mission is to be the leader in providing timely and objective information on U.S. and international population trends and their implications." School Matters developed by Standard & Poor's School Evaluation Services offers a searchable collection of education data. It includes student achievement information, financial data, demographic breakdowns and other information about public schools, school districts, and state education systems throughout the nation. Social Statistics Briefing Room The Social Statistics Briefing Room is the counterpart to the Economic Statistics Briefing Room. Again, it's a good quick reference, but not as comprehensive as FedStats. Statistical Abstract of the United States STATISTICAL ABSTRACT OF THE UNITED STATES contains a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States. Vital Statistics for the City of La Crosse Vital Statistics for the City of La Crosse includes tables on general population, housing, and details on race/ethnicity. Wisconsin Department of Administration-Demographic Services "The Demographic Services Center primary responsibility is to develop annual total population estimates for all Wisconsin towns, villages, and cities. It also makes annual estimates of the voting age population for all municipalities and total population estimates for Zip Code Areas" "WisStat contains thousands of demographic and economic variables for the state of Wisconsin, its counties and smaller communities. The sources of data include the U.S. Census Bureau and various State and Federal agencies."
