Teen Summer Library Program 2008

Book Your Summer and Win!

There are three easy steps to winning free stuff:
1. Pick up one of our “bookmarks” at any of our
three library locations.

2. Keep track of how much you read, volunteer, and
attend teen library programs and record it on a
bookmark.

3. Turn in your bookmarks each week at any of our
locations.

Three winners will be chosen each week at each
location...will you be one of them?

Here’s more good news: ALL bookmarks will be
entered into our final grand-prize drawing at the
end of the summer where three lucky teens will each
win a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. So
let’s do the math...the more bookmarks you turn in,
the higher your chances of winning one of our fab
prizes!

Kick-Off Event: Guitar Hero Tournament:
Think you’ve got some serious Guitar Hero skills? Then you won’t want to miss our Guitar Hero tournament where you could play your way to winning a gift certificate from Gaming Generations. You won’t want to miss this event where it will be as much fun to
watch as it will be to play!

Flip-Flop Mash-Up (June 13) : We’ve all got a pair of boring flipflops in our closet that could use a little “help,” so join us for flipflop mash-up where we turn those boring flip-flops into unique pieces of footwear! Oh, and we’ll feed you free pizza as well...

To “Tie-Dye” For (June 20): This art form is making a serious
comeback and we’ve got all the supplies you’ll need to make your t-shirt to “tie-dye” for—except please B.Y.O.T.= Bring Your Own T-Shirt.

‘Mallow Madness (June 27) : How do we love marshmallows? Let
us count the ways: we love to roast them, use them as props, play stupid games with them, and most of all we love to eat them! Join us for a “stupid fun” event where we’ll eat not only marshmallows but free pizza as well!

Riddles of Brin (July 11) : Think you’re smart enough to crack a few codes and follow a few clues without being detected? Then you won’t want to miss this unique game experience where the winners will receive gift certificates to Best Buy. And yeah, we’ll
still feed you pizza...

Stuff Swap (July 18) : You’ve got stuff sitting in your room collecting dust that you never use anymore but can’t seem to throw away, right? Now you don’t have to toss it, you can swap it for something else! Bring your books, graphic novels, movies and music CDs to our stuff swap and you might be able to work out a deal to swap your old stuff for some cool “new” stuff. Free stuff
and free pizza—what a great deal!

Read a Movie
Three Books/Movies in Three Months

How do you “read” a movie? First, read of the books/authors we’ll be discussing this summer. Second, join us for a viewing of the movie based on the book. Third, participate in our discussion after the movie as we discuss both the book and the movie. All events will run from 2-4 p.m. in the Main Library auditorium.

Monday, June 16: Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Young Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that old stone wall, Tristran learns, lies Faerie—where nothing, not even a fallen star, is what he imagined.

Monday, July 21: Beowulf (read any translation)
Beowulf is the earliest extant poem in a modern European language. It was composed in England four centuries before the Norman Conquest. But no one knows exactly when it was composed, or by whom, or why. As a social document this great epic reflects a feudal, newly Christian world of heroes and monsters, blood and victory and death.

August 18: Becoming Jane (read any Jane Austen title)
Becoming Jane is an enchanting movie of sense and
sensibility, pride and prejudice, aspiration and inspiration as Jane Austen dreams of doing the unthinkable:
marrying for love.
