Population by Race and Ethnicity
The 1990 Census permitted people to choose one race, which where tabulated into five groups:  white; black; American Indian; Eskimo and Aleut; Asian and Pacific Islander and other.
The 2000 Census permitted people to choose more than one race, which are tabulated into six groups:  white; black or African-American; American Indian or Alaska native; Asian native; native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander and other.
Racial data will not be  comparable with the racial data found in the 1990 Census.
Hispanic origin is not considered a race but an ethnic group.  An individual of Hispanic origin can be of any race.  You cannot add Hispanic to the six racial groupings.
