With the 2020 budget-imposed staff furloughs now complete, the La Crosse Public Library is excited to announce a change to its service hours and checkout/return services for the first quarter of the year beginning on Monday, January 4, 2021.  See below for changes as well as information on other services, including rules regarding face masks.

 Modifications to Service Hours

  • Beginning Monday, January 4th, the Main Library will be open Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm.  The library will be closed Sundays. This is an expansion of 12 services hours each week, including expanded hours on Saturday.

  • This modification relates to the Main Library for the first quarter of 2021.  The North and South Community Libraries remain closed at this time.

Pickup/Curbside/Dropbox Service

  • Patrons who request materials will receive electronic or phone notification that their items are available. 

  • Requested materials, or holds, can be picked up at the Circulation Desk inside the library or patrons can schedule curbside service by calling 608.789.7167.

  • There, patrons will provide their name, library card or ID and staff will retrieve their holds and check them out.

  • The drop box outside the South entrance will be open 24 hours a day for the convenience of patrons to return materials.

  • Per the La Crosse County Health Department and limited occupancy recommendations, at this time, patrons will not be able to physically browse the collection. Access to our collection will be by staff only. All staff working with the public or materials will be wearing personal protective equipment.

Computer/Fax/Printing Services

  • The Main library is open to the public for access to computer, printing and fax services, Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm and closed Sunday.  

  • Per instructions from the City of La Crosse government, all City of La Crosse staff and visitors are required to wear a mask or cloth face-covering that covers his or her mouth and nose when inside a City of La Crosse building.

  • Patrons are asked to wear a mask and are encouraged to stay home if they are ill or experiencing symptoms.

 Virtual Services/Digital Resources

  • Wi-Fi at all three locations will still be available from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.  There is no password, just accept terms and conditions.

  • If you don’t have a library card, but would like to access our digital services, request an e-card today

  •  If your library card is expired, please contact  or 608.789.7167 to update it. 

  • The Library has a variety of digital resources for your enjoyment, including Overdrive, which offers thousands of downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, available to anyone with a Winding Rivers Library System card and Hoopla offers City of La Crosse residents with a valid library card the ability to stream thousands of movies and television shows, eBooks, audiobooks, comics or music.
