The La Crosse Public Library and our community partners are looking to the future and planning for proposed community spaces at the South Community Library and the Main Street Library. City of La Crosse residents are invited to join in the planning process with this online survey. For more information, please visit lacrosselibrary.org/future.

Teachers: Library Tours and More!
Interested in a tour, storytime, or library books in your classroom? Check out the options below, designed especially for teachers. All library services are free!
How to Schedule a Tour
Find out how the library works, get cards for your students and hear a story during a tour of your local library. Call Dawn at 608-789-8190 or fill out the form to schedule your tour today.
Do You Want to Get Library Cards During Your Visit?
Want to help your students get their own library cards before your class or group visits the library? Check that box on our scheduling form and we will make arrangements for applications to be sent home in advance of your visit. (Completed applications usually need to be received 1-2 weeks before a scheduled visit for processing.)
Regular preschool storytimes are held at all La Crosse Public Library locations. If your class would like to attend a storytime at the library, we are happy to have you! We only ask that you contact the library a few days ahead so that librarians can plan accordingly.
Storytime in the Classroom
Can't travel to the library? Let the library come to you! Librarians can visit your classroom with stories, songs, puppets and more! Themes vary and may be tailored to fit your curriculum. To schedule a storytime in your classroom, fill out our web form or email email@example.com.
Other fun library visits
Storytime isn’t all we can do! Your librarians can offer poetry breaks (where we surprise your class with a quick but delightful poetry recitation), Book Talks (where we highlight great books for their grade level commercial-style), STEAM programs (think Lego building, cup stacking, paper airplane making and contests, art activities) and more!
Preset Library Visit Options
4K Class Visits
Librarians visit your classroom with stories, music, fingerplays and more. We can also deliver Books to Go (see below).
Kindergarten Sneakers Tour
This program welcomes kindergarten classrooms for a storytime, tour of the Children’s Room and a behind the scenes sneak peek! La Crosse School District visits happen every January and February.
Second Grade Stars Tour
This special “big kid” tour includes the Children’s Room, an in-depth behind the scenes tour and a variety of booktalks sure to get your class talking about the best new children’s books for second graders.
Third Grade Escape Rooms
Miss Dana brings this interactive experience to your class and will coordinate with the third grade teachers in your school to ensure that skills used are age and curriculum appropriate. Help your students learn teamwork, togetherness and the benefits of failure in this safe and fun lesson.
Fourth Grade Badger Detectives
Your students will visit our Main Street Location for an opportunity to learn La Crosse history using unique primary sources in our Archives, learn the value of community connections and solve historical mysteries.
These classes are for adults only and provide child care educator credits. During a Caregiver Workshop, a librarian hosts an interactive event for parents, teachers, and caregivers focusing on extending learning through books, crafts, felt, music, food, and more. For more information about upcoming workshops, or if you would like a workshop to come to your location, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Books to Go
Want a new set of books each month for students and families? Let us bring our books to your door! Books to Go check-out can be done in many ways -- a rotating set of library books can be brought to your classroom once each month; Librarians can bring books for kids to check out individually; books on a certain theme can be chosen ahead of time and held at your nearest library. For more information or to request this service, email email@example.com. Or, use this form to make your request.
Other Special Events
Are you planning a Family Fun Night, School Carnival, Literacy Night or other special event and want the library to participate? We can provide informational booths, craft activities, and more! Email Liz at firstname.lastname@example.org with your event specifics, or use this form to request the Pop-Up Library.
