Join the front lines of the La Crosse Public Library!

The La Crosse Public Library is currently seeking qualified, outgoing candidates for three 20-hour part-time Library Assistant positions in our Circulation Department and Access and Engagement Department. Under general supervision, these positions work collaboratively across library departments, performing a wide range of general public service, para-professional and clerical duties, and activities essential to the daily operation of the departments. The job requires a high level of public contact and strong multi-tasking abilities. Because of the nature of the job duties, daily onsite work attendance is critical.

Applicants should possess fantastic customer service skills, including adaptability, listening, a great sense of humor, and kindness. A well-developed sense of time management, organization, and a willingness to serve our community is key.  Candidates should enjoy working equally with children, teens, adults, and seniors.

This position has a variable schedule including evening hours and rotating weekends. Flexibility in scheduling is essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and an uncanny ability to work with the public are required. Previous library or service experience preferred. A knack for empathy, negotiating, and collaboration are highly valued. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Valid driver’s license required.

Salary starts at Grade 4, or $20.68/hour. Internal candidates may apply for lateral transfer. Benefits included pro-rated sick pay, vacation, and holiday hours. Electronic submissions are required.
